GPT-3, GPT-3.5, GPT-4

The main differences between GPT-3, GPT-3.5, and GPT-4 are in their capabilities, size, and the types of inputs they can process.

GPT-3

  1. GPT-3, with 175 billion parameters, was a significant leap forward in language model capabilities when it was released.
  2. It is capable of generating human-like text and performing a variety of language tasks.
  3. It has a limited context window, typically around a few thousand tokens.

GPT-3.5

  1. GPT-3.5 is an intermediate version between GPT-3 and GPT-4.
  2. It has improved performance over GPT-3 in terms of generating more accurate and nuanced text.
  3. The context window is larger than GPT-3, with a short-term memory of around 8,000 words.

GPT-4

  1. GPT-4 is described as “10 times more advanced than its predecessor, GPT-3.5,” with a much larger number of parameters, although the exact number is not publicly disclosed. It has been trained with around 100 trillion parameters.
  2. It has a significantly larger context window, with a short-term memory extending to around 64,000 words, which is expected to grow to 128,000 words.
  3. GPT-4 is multimodal, meaning it can analyze text, images, and voice, unlike GPT-3.5, which focuses primarily on text.
  4. It has improved safety features, being 82% less likely to respond to requests for disallowed content and 40% more likely to produce factual responses than GPT-3.5.
  5. GPT-4 can understand and generate different dialects, respond to emotions expressed in text, and has a feature that allows it to properly cite sources when generating content.
  6. It demonstrates a strong ability to solve complex mathematical and scientific problems and can analyze and comment on images and graphics.
  7. GPT-4 implements mechanisms to minimize undesirable results, such as politically biased, offensive, or harmful content.
