5G corridors*

5G corridors are part of the EU Digital Decade Strategy, a program overseen by the European Union (EU). 5G corridors and aim to provide 5G coverage along transport paths such as roads, railways, and waterways. The goal is to improve road safety, optimize traffic flow, reduce CO2 emissions, and enhance industrial competitiveness in the transport and mobility sectors. 5G-enabled Connected and Automated Mobility (CAM) is considered a major enabler for improved road safety, optimized road traffic, reduced CO₂ emissions, and industrial competitiveness of both the transport and mobility sector.

The EU considers 5G corridors key to enabling the next generation of transportation services, providing the necessary connectivity for the safe and efficient operation of connected and automated vehicles along major transport routes. Uninterrupted 5G connectivity is crucial for ensuring the safety, reliability, and efficiency of transport systems, as it enables vehicles to communicate with each other and with infrastructure in real-time, facilitating safer and more efficient travel.
